The Mountain Home City Council met in regular session Thursday. Six of the eight members of the council were present. Alderman Rick Pierce and Alderwoman Nancy Osmmon were absent.

In new business, the council approved an ordinance amending the contracted water rates between the city of Mountain Home Water Department and wholesale purchasers. The current rate the water department provides to the Northeast Water Association is $3.60 per 1,000 gallons. The approved ordinance raised that rate to $3.91.

Gassville and Cotter’s rate was $4.05. If they purchase water under the new ordinance, they will pay $4.42.

Lakeview/Midway’s rate was $4.26. Under the new ordinance, their rate is $4.66.

Water and Sewer Director Alma Clark said this is the first rate increase in two years as her department chose to forgo an increase in 2016. She said wholesale purchasers were made aware of the probable increase after last month’s council meeting when the ordinance was proposed. Clark also said the ordinance will not change the rates of Mountain Home residents.

In other business, an ordinance vacating an alley was approved. The alley lies between First Security Bank and a private residence.

Also brought to light was grass clippings. Mayor Joe Dillard urged residents who mow their yard to “be considerate” and make sure their grass clippings are kept their yard and not in city streets. Not only do grass clippings cause additional wear and tear on city streets but the clippings can also damage the city’s drainage system. Mayor Dillard said the Mountain Home Police Department is issuing warnings to those who don’t abide.
