Two men face drug charges in Douglas County, and one is also accused of identity theft. According to Sheriff Chris Degase, 20-year-old Dalton Young and 26-year-old Jeremiah Kaberlein were recently arrested at a local monastery.

A deputy was called to the monastery after a citizen’s report of three suspicious males with no shirts carrying black backpacks. He says he spoke with Kaberlein who appeared to be under the influence of a substance. Kaberlein gave consent to search his bag, and the deputy located multiple Social Security cards, debit cards, IDs and other cards with names not matching Kaberlein. A small baggie testing positive for methamphetamine was also found in the bag.

Kaberlein’s vehicle was found nearly 300 yards from the monastery. After a search through the MULES system, dispatch says the vehicle came back stolen in Kansas. A pipe recognized for the use of smoking methamphetamine was found inside the vehicle.

Kaberlein was charged with a Class B felony count of Trafficking in Stolen Identities, a Class C felony count of Possession of a Controlled Substance and a Class A misdemeanor count of Unlawful Use of Drug Paraphernalia. His bond is at $20,000, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Mid-States Organized Crime Information Center attempting to get contact information for the owners of the recovered cards.

The deputy says another male subject, Young, appeared to be asleep on a picnic bench. Consent was given to search Young’s backpack, and the deputy found several items testing positive for methamphetamine. The deputy says Young also appeared to be under the influence, and he was taken into custody along with Kaberlein.

Young also faces charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Use of Drug Paraphernalia. Bond for Young is set at $15,000.
