An Ozark County resort has been given the green light by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to remove portions of its dam. According to the Corps, a nationwide permit was verified for Dawt Mill to begin the project on the North Fork of the White River nearly a month.
Corps of Engineers' Little Rock District spokesperson Laurie Driver says there will be a few different portions of the dam removed to increase safety.

The authorization for the removal is required under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. The Corps of Engineers is not involved in the project other than to give Dawt Mill the approval. Normally, a similar project would have to wait anywhere from 60 to 120 days for authorization, but Driver says the approval process was sped up since the application was for a nationwide permit.

Dawt Mill applied for dam removal after 13-year-old Chloe Butcher of Springfield was trying to help another swimmer. She became lodged under the water and drowned in the June 25th incident.
