A news release was issued Wednesday by the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) of a possible outbreak of mumps in the northwestern portion of the state. According to ADH, the possible outbreak is mainly in Springdale as two cases were confirmed, and several suspected cases were also identified. The ADH says it’s the largest cluster of mumps cases the Natural State has experienced since 2010.

Baxter Regional Medical Center infection preventionalist Stephanie Free says while nothing has been reported of a mumps outbreak in north central Arkansas, the hospital is doing what is necessary to prepare.
