LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – A former adviser to Gov. Asa Hutchinson who had been running the Division of Youth Services on an interim basis is now taking the post permanently.

The Department of Human Services on Monday announced that Interim Director Betty Guhman will be taking the job permanently. Guhman has been serving as the division’s interim director since late July.

Marcus Devine, the division’s previous director, stepped down in April.

Guhman has served as a senior adviser to Hutchinson since 2014 with a focus on the Department of Human Services and child welfare. She began her career as a protective service worker for the DHS division of children and family services in 1973 and was named deputy commissioner of the division of youth services in 1977.
