6th Annual Bridge Bash Saturday in Cotter

     The sixth annual Bridge Bash, the signature fund raising event of the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas, will be held Saturday at Big Springs Park. The full day of activities begins at 10 with the Stand Up for Hope Ceremony under, not on, the R. V. Ruthven Bridge over the White River. This is a change from last year, according to Jeff Quick, ceo of the food bank.

     Admission to Bridge Bash is free and those wishing to participate in the Stand Up for Hope ceremony can preregister on-line for a $20 donation or at the event that morning. Anyone unable to attend can be a virtual “Sleep in for Hope” participant with a $20 donation which can also be made on-line at the food bank website, www.foodbanknca.com.http://www.foodbanknca.org Every dollar donated will go directly to hunger relief, according to Quick, who says this year’s Bridge Bash goal is to raise $100,000.

     Prior to the Stand Up for Hope Ceremony, there will be a kayak race starting at Bull Shoals Dam and the Warriors for Hope Color Run, a 5K run/walk, in Big Spring Park. Registration for the 5K run/walk begins at 7:30 a.m. in the park with a start time at 8 a.m. Registration for the kayak race begins at the dam at 8 a.m. with the race starting an hour later at 9.

     Registration for the Bridge Bash Car, Truck and Bike Show begins at 9 in the morning at the park with the show starting at 10. The cost to enter a vehicle in the show is $10 or ten cans of nonperishable food items.

     Duck races will be held be held every half hour beginning at noon until all ducks have raced.

     A full day of activities of adults and children are planned with a dog show at 11 a.m.; vendor and craft booths; a live and silent auction, starting at noon, featuring everything from vacations to restaurant certificates; a Kids Korner with numerous children’s activities and food vendors with to satisfy appetites from barbecue to deep fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

     A Bridge Bash event is meal packaging.

     Live musical entertainment is always a part of Bridge Bash and this year’s musical lineup is really special, says Quick.

     Through generous donations from local businesses and individuals who sponsor Bridge Bash, all of the money raised at the event will go directly to the 75 hunger relief organizations of the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas, says Quick. These agencies, including food panties, shelters, weekend meals programs for school children and soup kitchens serve over 200,000 people in the food bank’s nine county service area of Baxter, Boone, Fulton, Izard, Marion, Newton, Searcy, Sharp and Stone counties.
