A Texas man has pleaded guilty to defrauding a federal food program in Arkansas out of nearly $700,000.

Court records show 35-year-old Waymon Weeams Jr. of the Dallas area entered the plea Tuesday as part of a plea agreement in which he admitted to conspiring with the husband of an Arkansas Department of Human Services employee to defraud a program to feed children in low-income areas of Arkansas during the school year.

The indictment says the DHS employee approved sponsors of the feeding program and that Weeams paid her husband a portion of the funds he received.

Prosecutors said Weeams claimed to have fed as many as 872 children per day in Forrest City, Marianna and Wynne, but that just 10 to 50 were actually fed.
