Central Arkansas officer shoots, critically wounds man

     BENTON, Ark. (AP) Police in Benton say a man was critically wounded when he was shot by an officer after threatening the officer with a gun.

     Police say the officer had first responded to reports of a man screaming in the northeast part of the city about 10:25 p.m. Saturday. The officer found a man and woman arguing and separated them.

     Police say about 30 minutes later, the officer again encountered the man involved in the argument and the man then threated the officer with a handgun. The officer then shot the man and he was flown to a Little Rock hospital in critical condition.

     Police say the man’s handgun was found at the scene.

     No names have been released. The officer was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting.
