Small Plane Crashes, Catches Fire in Connecticut: Officials

@mferr1971/Twitter(MANCHESTER, Conn.) — A small plane has crashed in Connecticut, according to police and fire officials.

The two passengers on board were taken to area hospitals, said Jason Bak of Ambulance Service — Manchester. The extent of their injuries was unclear.

The Piper PA 34 aircraft, went down at about 3:40 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The plane was on its final approach to land at Hartford-Brainard Airport when it crashed.

The plane was destroyed, and it took some telephone poles down when it crashed, said Lt. Timothy Juergens, media contact for the communications center for the East Hartford Police and Fire Departments. As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, the fire had not yet been extinguished, he added.

Video posted to Twitter shows flames and smoke near a parking lot.

Another video shows smoke from the crash billowing into the sky from afar.
