The Arkansas River in Little Rock has reopened after crews removed debris from the Broadway Bridge from the waterway.

Crews used explosives to implode one of the bridge’s arches on Tuesday as part of the project to build a new span crossing the river between downtown Little Rock and North Little Rock. Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department spokesman Danny Straessle told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that the last piece was removed Thursday afternoon and the channel reopened about 5:15 p.m. after an inspection of the waterway by the contractor and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Workers will again use explosives to demolish the bridge’s three remaining arches starting about 1 p.m. Friday. Straessle says the arches are wrapped in a fabric to help minimize debris dispersal.
