JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) The Joplin School District has reached a settlement agreeing to pay $2.5 million to a contractor hired to help build a school after the 2011 tornado.
The Joplin Globe reports that school officials announced the settlement with P1 Group Inc. in a statement Friday.
Jeff Koch, president of the Board of Education, said the board was satisfied with the agreement. He says the $2.5 million has been paid to the company out of the district’s reserve fund.
The company was hired to work on the new Joplin High School/Franklin Technology Center after the May 2011 tornado destroyed much of the southwest Missouri city.
The district sued in 2015, alleging it wasn’t obligated to pay certain costs. The company filed a counterclaim, arguing the district had breached the contract.
