Suspect in vehicle theft captured

A man suspected of a motor vehicle theft Saturday in Baxter County has been captured, according to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery. 30-year-old Daryl Matthew Kruegar was arrested Sunday afternoon by Corporal Kristopher Savino following a citizen tip reporting he was seen walking along Highway 62 B in Mountain Home.

Kruegar was charged with multiple felonies including residential burglary, Class B and Class D theft of property and misdemeanor fraud for use of a stolen credit card.

On Saturday, November 20th a call came into the Sheriff’s Department saying a residence was broken into on Highway 5 south. The victim reported that someone had broke into the home and checkbooks, keys to the residence and other items were missing, along with a 2013 GMC truck.

According to the sheriff, after taking the vehicle, Kruegar purchased fuel at a gas station on the Sheid/Hopper Bypass and Buzzard Roost Road. He then went to the Mountain Home WalMart to make another purchase, where he was photographed on security cameras. When the owner of the stolen vehicle discovered it was missing, he called the sheriff’s office. The vehicle, which was equipped with an OnStar system, was remotely disabled in the Walmart parking lot. When the suspect returned to the vehicle and found it disabled, he left the scene on foot.
