The Arkansas Department of Workforce Services reports that the March unemployment rate in Baxter County is holding steady at 4.3 percent for November, just three-tenths higher than the unemployment rate across the state. There is a total labor force of 16,394 in the county with 708 unemployed.

The average unemployment rate for other counties in our listening area is the same. In Boone county the rate is 3.6 percent, Fulton County is at 3.9 percent, Izard 5 percent, Marion 4 percent, Newton 3.8 percent, Searcy 4.6 percent and Stone is at 4.9 percent.

The Department of Workforce Services show Arkansas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate

remained stable at 4.0 percent between September and October. Arkansas’ civilian labor force declined

2,173, a result of 1,805 fewer employed and 368 less unemployed. The Unites States’ jobless rate decreased one-tenth of a percentage point, from 5.0 percent in September to 4.9 percent in

October.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics Program Operations Manager, Susan Price, said Arkansas’ unemployment rate remained unchanged at four percent from September to October. The fluctuations in employment and unemployment were not significant enough to impact the rate.

Seven of Arkansas’ major industry sectors posted gains. State and local government added 1,900 jobs. Jobs in educational and health services rose to 1,700 mostly in healthcare and social assistance. Professional and business services increased to 1,500. Most of those gains were in administrative and support services including employment agencies.

Leisure and hospitality industries declined 1,500 with the majority of losses occurring seasonally in arts, entertainment and recreation.
