SUMMIT MAN ELECTROCUTED FRIDAY NIGHT

The Marion County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a Summit man who was apparently electrocuted Friday night by a downed power line. Sergeant Silas Gibson from the Marion County Sheriff's Office says a call was received shortly after 6 reporting a power line down in the area of Yellville Industrial Park. As the Marion County deputy responding to the scene was driving down highway 202 near South Oak Street in Summit, an individual ran toward him, stopped him and said a may was lying in a ditch on the opposite side of the road First responders came to the scene and found the man, later identified as 37 year old Michael Paul Wood, unresponsive. He appeared to have been electrocuted by a power line blown down by strong winds in the area at the time. Witnesses to the incident said Wood was walking down the road when the power line blew down and struck him.
Gibson says Entergy crews responded to the scene to secure the area enabling the Marion County Coroner to pronounce Michael Paul Wood dead and safely remove his body.
A power outage in the area at the time may or may not be related, according to Gibson.
