Two convicted felons were arrested on felony charges of residential burglary and theft of a firearm by Marion County deputies Tuesday. Marion County Sheriff Joan Vickers says Garrett D. Marler and Matthew Bourg are charged with residential burglary, theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, and misdemeanor charges of fleeing. Marler faces additional charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the sheriff, Corporal Zeb Gilley from the sheriff’s office was on a follow-up investigation for an unrelated case near the Yellville Quick Stop on State Highway 14 south when he observed a home invasion in progress. Gilley watched one of the suspects, Bourg who was holding two rifles, acting in a suspicious manner. When he called his name, Bourg began to flee and the deputy called for backup. During the pursuit of Bourg another suspect, Marler, ran from the residence with a rifle. Marler was immediately apprehended and taken into custody. Bourg, who was located a short time later, was taken into custody without further incident.

As Marler was being taken into custody, suspected methamphetamine and suspected drug paraphernalia were found in his possession.

The sheriff says Bourg is currently on probation for felony residential burglary and other theft related offenses. Marler is a convicted felon currently on parole from the Arkansas Department of Corrections. He was recently released after serving 12 months and is serving a seven year probation sentence for felony residential burglary and other theft related offenses.

The Marion County Sheriff’s office was assisted by officers from the Arkansas State Police and Arkansas Game and Fish.
