A few local high school basketball teams were in Batesville for the start of the Mark Martin Automotive/Lyon College High School Tournament.

Viola’s boys fell in the final game of the night to Highland 53-40. Alex Waltrip led the Longhorns with ten points.

Viola’s next opponent will be Cedar Ridge in the consolation bracket. Calico Rock defeated the Timberwolves 54-42. The Pirates were led by Logan and Luke Dickerson with 14 points each, and Brenden Sneathern added 11. Calico Rock advances to face Mountain View.

Salem lost the opening game of the day after getting edged out by Bald Knob 59-55. Stephen Shoup was the Greyhounds’ top scorer with 24 points, Cameron Shaver had 13, and Logan Jewell chipped in ten.

Salem fared better on the girls’ side after invoking the mercy rule with a 54-23 victory over Cedar Ridge. Quincy Humphries paced the Lady Greyhounds with 13 points, and Kaylea Walling finished with 11. Salem will go up against Pocahontas on Thursday.



Mammoth Spring ended up splitting their opening games in the Midland Invitational Tournament at Pleasant Plains.

On the boys’ bracket, the Bears got past Greers Ferry West Side 62-54. Mammoth Spring was led by Sagen Godwin with 25 points and ten rebounds, and Logan Skaggs and Brett Mayfield ended up with ten points each. The Bears improve to 11-2 on the season.

It was a different result for Mammoth Spring’s girls as they were toppled by Pangburn 53-26. Stephine Henry was the Lady Bears’ leading scorer with 13 points, and Brianna Hocum added 12. Mammoth Spring falls to 5-7 on the year.



Yellville-Summit’s junior girls had a tough outing on the home court. The Junior Lady Panthers fell to Marshall 35-19.



Mountain Home was able to pick up a few junior high victories at Valley Springs.

The Eighth Grade Lady Bombers were able to beat the Eighth Grade Lady Tigers 36-22. Emily Payne led Mountain Home with 11 points. The Eighth Grade Lady Bombers remain undefeated in three games on the season, and they’ll return to the home court on Thursday to face Bentonville.

Mountain Home also took the eighth grade boys’ contest over Valley Springs 37-33. The Eighth Grade Bombers were led by Brandon Morris with 15 points, and Mat Jones chipped in 14. Mountain Home improves to 7-0, and they’ll travel to Paragould next Monday to take on Greene County Tech.

In addition, Mountain Home won the seventh grade boys’ game 18-12.
