Meeting on Buffalo River Watershed Management Plan to be held in Marshall

     The first in a series of public meetings on the development of a Buffalo River Watershed Management Plan will be held Thursday morning at 9:30 at the Searcy County Civic Center Gym in Marshall. The purpose of the meeting is to explain the process to be followed in developing the plan ad to gather public input from interested stakeholders.

     In late September, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson established the Beautiful Buffalo River Action Committee to identify and address potential issued of concern in the Buffalo River Watershed through the development of a non-regulatory, watershed-based management plan. With funding from an EPA multipurpose grant, the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission contracted with FTN Associates, Ltd. to establish a Buffalo River Watershed Management Plan.

     Over the next year and a half, the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission will develop a voluntary, watershed-based management plan designed to help sustain the watershed and its resources. The plan will provide a framework for landowners, communities and organizations to voluntarily undertake water-quality projects in the watershed and improve the ability to solicit and secure funding and assistance from government and private sources. Other public meeting will be held during this time as input from stakeholders is important the development of the plan.
