A Mountain Home man and woman have been released from the Baxter County jail following their arrest Sunday by a Baxter County Sheriff’s deputy on felony charges. Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says 31 year old Adam Tyler McMackins is charged with criminal use of a prohibited weapon, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia and a misdemeanor traffic charge. His companion, 41 year old Karen Beth Harned, is charged with criminal use of a prohibited weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were released after each posting $7,500 bond.

The sheriff says the deputy responded to a call of suspicious activity in the area of Baxter County Road 30 and made a traffic stop on a car located in the area matching the caller’s description. As the deputy approached the car, he observed a small shotgun in the vehicle. An examination of the 20 gauge gun, with a sawed off barrel, appeared to have grind marks and paint on it and the serial number, make and model could not be found. Ammunition for the weapon was located in the vehicle, including expended cartridges. Also found in the vehicle was a canister containing methamphetamine residue.

Adam Tyler McMackins and Karen Beth Harned are scheduled to appear in circuit court Thursday.
