Prescott turns back Charleston for first title since 1995

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) Derrick Flynn rushed for 210 yards and Carlos Vanhook had 209 Saturday night as Prescott completed a perfect season with a 37-26 victory over Charleston, giving the Curley Wolves their first Arkansas state football championship since 1995.



The new Class 3A champions, holding an 11-point lead, began taking a knee to run out the clock with 2:24 left. They turned the ball over to Charleston with 44 seconds left but the Tigers gave the ball back on the next play.



Charleston’s Jackson Rowland threw three second-half interceptions after Flynn’s 21-yard pass to Vanhook gave Prescott a 37-26 lead with 10:00 left. The last one came with 35 seconds left.



Charleston, which held a 20-19 lead at halftime, was seeking its third championship since 2013.



Prescott (15-0) had 438 yards in total office but was penalized 16 times for 115 yards. Charleston (13-1) had 314 yards, and gave up 90 yards on 12 penalties.
