Gainesville came away with the consolation title of the Mansfield boys’ tournament on Saturday. The Bulldogs squeaked by Houston 43-41.



Two local girls’ basketball teams came away with victories in the North Arkansas College Border Wars at the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison. Gainesville routed Kingston 68-29, and Valley Springs topped Ozark, Missouri, 61-42.



The Mark Martin Automotive/Lyon College High School Tournament came to an end Saturday at Becknell Gymnasium in Batesville.

Mountain View came away with the girls’ championship trophy after getting past Pocahontas 48-45. The Lady Yellowjackets were led by Kaley Shipman with 19 points as she was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Also for Mountain View, Cheyenne Shelton was selected for the All-Tournament team, and Casey Scribner won the Coaches’ Award.

Calico Rock’s girls were playing for the consolation title, but they ended up losing to Izard County 51-28. Megan Hiles was the Lady Pirates’ top scorer with ten points. For the Lady Cougars, Sam King scored 17 points, Haley Thomason had 11, and Jen King added ten. Sam King was also picked for the All-Tournament team. Izard County is now 14-3 on the year.

Izard Count dominated the boys’ consolation final with a 63-37 victory over Highland. Taylor Reynolds paced the Cougars with 17 points, and Justus Cooper chipped in 15 as he was named to the All-Tournament team.



The Mountain Home freshmen boys finished the Cavemen Tournament in Cave City as runners-up as they fell to Highland 45-20. The Junior Bombers drop to 4-5 on the season, and they’ll travel to Paragould on Monday to face Greene County Tech.



Mountain Home’s seventh grade boys ended up with a third place finish in a tournament at Bald Knob. The Seventh Grade Bombers began by beating Cross County 29-19. Mountain Home lost its second game 32-30 at the hands of Batesville as they were led by Luke Proctor with 12 points. The Seventh Grade Bombers wrapped up the day by getting a 28-23 victory over Augusta.
