Local 14-year-old and 8th grade student Lucas Todd recently won the 8th Grade spelling bee
at Mountain Home Junior High. Winning the spelling competition is impressive however, it’s Lucas Todd’s special set of circumstances that make the victory extraordinary.

Todd says Lucas faces the challenge of being hearing impaired on a daily basis. The Mountain Home School District has helped ease difficulties through a special means of communication.

Todd says the hearing system was put to use early on in Lucas’ education. Every year Todd has a discussion with teachers to let them know how the system operates. He says utilizing it has been a learning curve but the schools have been very cooperative.
