Local businesses are partnering with the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas this Christmas season to help feed hungry families, children and the elderly with the Spirit of Giving Food. Susan Stockton, development director at the food bank says the drive continues until December 23. She says bins are located at local businesses where anyone can drop off nonperishable food items.

Statistics from Feeding America show that one in every four children in Arkansas are considered food insecure. In the Twin Lakes Area, however, that statistic is a staggering one in every third child. During the school year these children are eligible for free or reduced price breakfast and lunch. While these children are out of school for Christmas break, even more pressure is put on their families, says Stockton.
