The Christmas season is a time of happiness, friendship, fellowship and family fun, but for many the holidays can bring sadness and depression, commonly called the “Holiday Blues.” During a recent appearance on KTLO-FM’s TALK OF THE TOWN, with host Debby Stanuch, Rev. Randy Ludwig, chaplain at Baxter Regional Medical Center, discussed the Holiday Blues. He identifies three reasons for the holiday blues; unrealistic expectations of our families, unrealistic expectations of ourselves and the main reason, a change in a relationship like the loss of a loved one.

After losing a loved one, he says people think they aren’t supposed to have fun anymore or enjoy life and it’s easy to get depressed. He suggests finding ways to incorporate that loved one in Christmas.

The remedy for the holiday blues, according to Ludwig, is to look outward and touch the life of someone else.
