Sales tax numbers for Baxter County and the City of Mountain Home were down in December, according to numbers provided by the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration.
Baxter County Treasurer Janey Mize says the numbers released in December, which covers spending in October, show a 5.2 percent decrease compared to the same month last year, the biggest drop in 2016.

The county saw drops in sales tax revenue in March of 3 percent and 2 percent in June, according to Mize. However, sales tax revenue for the year is up a total of $78,238, or 2.1 percent, over 2015. At $3.8 million, the county’s sales tax is up from a projection of 3.7, says Mize.
The county sales tax is divided among the county and the eight municipalities, with Mountain Home leading the way with $155,261, Gassville collected $25,918, while Cotter picked up $112,099, Lakeview took in $9,242, Norfork received $6,374, Salesville collected $5,613 the City of Briarcliff netted $2,944 and Big Flat received $1,297.
Like the county, City of Mountain Home Treasurer Deborah Cotter says the city also saw sales tax numbers decline in December.

Although the city saw a decline in sales tax numbers for six months in 2016, December was not the highest decline, according to Cotter. She says January posted a biggest decline followed by the recently released December figures. The other months posting declines in city sales tax were March, June, July and August.
Overall however, the city of Mountain Home’s sales tax numbers are up 1.65 per cent.
