Local law enforcement, and officers across the state began stepping up winter DWI patrols Friday as part of the National “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. The enforcement effort will continue through Sunday, January 1st.
Mountain Home Police Department’s Sergeant Bryan Corbett says during the holidays there are too many people tempted to drive a vehicle after consuming alcohol.

Some drivers are unaware they can be pulled over for simply not wearing a seatbelt.

According to Corbett, reports from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicate in 2015 there were 531 fatal motor vehicle crashes in Arkansas, 28 percent of the deaths were alcohol related.
He says planning ahead, if drinking, by arranging for a ride from a taxi, sober friend or family member can potentially save a life. Notifying police of a drunk driver can save a life as well.
