The Corps of Engineers will be recycling Christmas trees

If you have a natural Christmas tree, there’s a way you can recycle your tree and help the fish habitat in area lakes.

The Corps of Engineers say you can complete your gift giving by donating your discarded tree for fish cover on Bull Shoals or Norfork Lakes. Many local anglers sink discarded Christmas trees to improve fish habitat.

The Corps says take your old Christmas tree to any Corps of Engineers boat ramp on Norfork or Bull Shoals lakes and deposit them to the side, being careful not to block the ramp and parking areas.

The Corps will only use live trees, not artificial ones, to make the fish shelters. They ask that you remove all tinsel and ornaments to protect aquatic life. The trees will be available for anyone interested in using them to provide shelter for fish and serve as attractors for recreational fishing. The Corps says anyone is welcome to sink the trees as fish cover. Unclaimed trees will be sunk by the Corps at a later date.

Anyone with questions about the program may call Natural Resource Specialist Dylan Edwards at (870) 425-2700, extension 1431.
