A Mountain Home man, 21-year-old Mitchell Teconchuck, was arrested Tuesday afternoon after a police pursuit. According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, the Sheriff’s office received a call around 4:40 from the Ozark County Sheriff’s Office in Gainesville that they had officers in pursuit of a Red Nissan heading south, from their county, toward Arkansas on State Highway 201. Teconchuck, the driver of the vehicle, was suspected in a theft that had occurred in Ozark County.

Ozark County officers discontinued their pursuit when the vehicle reached Arkansas. A short time later, Baxter County Sheriff’s Corporal Kristofer Savino met up with the vehicle which was traveling well in excess of the posted speed limit. As Corporal Savino turned around to attempt to apprehend Teconchuck, he sped up continuing toward Mountain Home. Deputy Chuck Menschik was also in the area. As Teconchuck approached Menschik’s position, he turned around and headed back north. Corporal Savino and Deputy Menschik then continued the pursuit north bound on State Highway 201 reaching high speeds. Teconchuck was passing vehicles in no passing zones, nearly causing collisions.

The pursuing officers lost sight of the vehicle as it crossed over the Pigeon Creek bridge. Officers eventually caught up with the vehicle and saw it had crashed near the intersection of State Highway 201 North and Baxter CR 484.

Officers took Teconchuck into custody at the accident scene. He complained of injury, and an ambulance was dispatched. He was transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center. He was later released and booked into the Baxter County Detention Center.

Teconchuck is on parole with the Arkansas Department of Corrections. He will be charged in Baxter County with various offenses related to the pursuit, and is also expected to be extradited to Ozark County to face charges there. Teconchuck is currently being held without bond. Formal charges will likely be filed later today.
