Above average year for rainfall in 2016





    The year ended with a drier than normal month however, the Twin Lakes Area finished with above average rainfall amounts. In December, a total of 1.45 inches of rainfall was recorded at KTLO, Classic Hits 101.7 and The Boot, the official weather reporting station in Mountain Home for the National Weather Service. That is 2.49 inches less than normal precipitation for December. The December rainfall resulted in a year-end total of 48.82 inches of precipitation for the year, which is 3.59 inches above the average yearly amount of 45.23 inches.

    In 2016, the area recorded six months when precipitation was less than the normal monthly averages. There were six months when rainfall exceeded the normal monthly averages. June was the wettest month with 9.77 inches of rain, followed by August with 6.46 inches. The driest months were January and December. The area received 1.24 inches of precipitation in January and 1.45 inches in December.

    The Twin Lakes Area received precipitation on 31 days. The greatest rainfall total was 3.33 inches during the 24 hour period on May 10th.

    The warmest day was on July 24th when the thermometer topped out at 97 degrees. The lowest temperature of the year was on December 20th, which only reached 6 degrees. The area had one of the lowest snowfalls on record only recording one-half inch for the entire year.
