The New Year brought good news from Norfork Fire Chief Frankie Baker for over 1600 homeowners, businesses and schools in the Norfork Fire Protection District whose ISO rating will be lowered. Norfork and Mountain Home Fire Departments have had the lowest ISO ratings in the county, but now Norfork’s is getting even lower, according to Baker.

The ISO rating, from the Insurance Service Office, is used by insurance companies to establish fire insurance premiums for home and business owners across the country. Baker says of the 1400 fire departments in Arkansas, only 200 have ISO ratings of 3 or lower. To achieve the lower rating, he says, requires a great deal of time and effort from the chief and members of the fire department who must regularly attend classes, receive certifications and more.

Baker says his team of 17 trained volunteer firefighters, both men and women, with an average age of 60 plus, respond to calls day and night.
