MH teams split at home with Vilonia

The Mountain Home High School basketball teams had the first district games of the season Saturday night and came away with a split against Vilonia. Brad Haworth has the details.

The Lady Bombers controlled the game for three quarters then had to hang on fo a 48-42 win. Mountain Home opened the game with an 8-2 run and did the same thing in the second quarter to build a ten point halftime lead. The lead swelled to 13 heading into the fourth quarter before the Lady Eagles mounted their comeback. They hit four three pointers in a row to begin the final period and got with five points. But they got no closer than five and Mountain Home earned the six point win.

Vinessa Daniel had a huge night for the Lady Bombers with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Hannah Pfiefer scored 19 as Mountain Home improves to 8-8 overall and 1-1 in the 6A/5A-2 District.

Vilonia, who drops to 10-4 and 1-1, got 14 points from Paige Kelley.



In the boy’s game, Vilonia controlled the game from the outset to win 72-57. The Eagles hit five three pointers quickly and raced out to a 17-4 lead in the first four minutes. Mountain Home battled back and trailed by seven at halftime. But Vilonia opened the second half with an 11-2 run to go up by 16 and the Bombers never got closer than ten the rest of the way.

Malik Burton scored 18 to pace the Eagles who improve to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in district play.

Mountain Home got 29 points and 11 recounds from Garrett Dietsche as they fall to 5-10 and 1-1.



The Mountain Home teams have Tuesday night off. They travel to Morrilton next Friday.
