Norfork resident Earl Olsen was honored recently for his 12 years of service as a commission for the Norfork Fire Protection District and 10 years as a volunteer firefighter/first responder with the fire department.

Norfork Fire Chief Frankie Baker, who presented Olsen with a plaque in recognition of his service to the fire department and district, said Olsen was instrumental in the department’s lowering of the fire protection districts ISO rating.

Olsen retired to Norfork from Chicago with his wife, June, in 2004 after 31 years on the Chicago Police Department. The former police sergeant is also a United States Army veteran who served two years in the infantry in Viet Nam.
