Twin Lakes Community Foundation grant period open



     Twin Lakes Area nonprofit organizations can now apply for Giving Tree Grants from the Twin Lakes Community Foundation. Grants, ranging from $250 to $2,500 are awarded to any 501(c)(3) charity, public school, government agency, or hospital in Baxter, Marion, Fulton, or Izard Counties. Gwen Khayat, Community Foundation Executive Director, says grants awarded by the foundation range from $250 to $2,500.

      The funds for the Giving Tree Grants come from an endowment provided by local donors, according to Khayat.

      The minimum rollover donation is $1,000 with the match funds coming from the Arkansas Community Foundation, says Khayat.

      Last year the Twin Lakes Community Foundation received 40 grant applications and awarded 17 grants as well as a special Stop Hunger Grant, says Khayat. Grants were awarded to area Backpack/Weekend meals programs for school children; Single Parent Scholarship Funds in Baxter, Marion and Fulton Counties; the Marion County and Big Flat Senior Center and Ozark Center of Hope.

      Grant applications can be downloaded at arcf.org/givingtree http://arcf.org/givingtree. Applications must be submitted online by February 15. Awards will range from $500 to $2,000 and will be announced in April. Giving Tree Grants and the Stop Hunger Grant will be awarded at the same time and must be applied for on-line at www.arcf.org with a grant submission deadline of February 15. Grants submitted by mail will not be accepted.

      The Twin Lakes Community Foundation was founded in 2002 as a local affiliate of the Arkansas Community Foundation. Funding for the program comes from hundreds of Arkansas donors who support the work of the Foundation.
