MH hoops teams split at Morrilton

The Mountain Home High School basketball teams split their games Friday night at Morrilton. Brad Haworth has the details.

The Lady Bombers struggled to score but their defense rose to the occassion in a 29-24 win. After the teams finished the first quarter tied at four, the Lady Devil Dogs opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run and led 13-8 at halftime. Mountain Home had its own 8-0 run to open the third quarter to re-take the lead but Morrilton had the answer and lead 20-17 heading into the final period. In the final quarter, Mountain Home outscored Morrilton 12-4, including two key three pointers by Alivia O’Brien.

Vinessa Daniel led the Lady Bomber scoring with 14 points. The defense not only held Morrilton to 24 points but they forced the Lady Devil Dogs into 21 turnovers.

The Lady Bombers improve to 9-8 overall and 2-1 in the 6A/5A-2 District. Morrilton falls to 7-11 and 1-2.



In the boy’s game, Morrilton blew open a close game at the half for a 58-33 victory. The Devil Dogs jumped out to a 10-2 lead early but the Bombers responded and led 15-12 in the second quarter. After that, Morrilton would outscore the Bombers 46-18.

Garrett Dietsche paced Mountain Home with 15 points as they fall to 5-11 overall and 1-2 in district play.

The Devil Dogs, who improve to 9-7 and 3-0, got 25 points from Donald Jones.



The Mountain Home teams will host Beebe Tuesday night.
