Local youth compete in area ELKS Hoop Shoot

The Mountain Home ELKS Lodge #1714 held its area finals of the 45th annual ELKS Hoop Shoot Saturday as several local youth gathered at Bomber Gymnasium at Mountain Home High School for the yearly free throw competition.



On the girls’ side, Mountain Home’s Emily Payne won among the 12- and 13-year-olds, and Hannah Evans of Gainesville was the runner-up. The winner for ages ten and 11 was Sailor Anderson of Gainesville, and Yellville’s Abby Methvin finished second. The eight-to-nine age group title went to Hannah Heyward of Flippin, and Rylee Domerese of Mountain Home ended up second.



Among the boys, the top two in the 12-to-13 age group are from Gainesville as Landry Jenkins won the area crown, and Andrew Palton was the runner-up. For the ten- and 11-year-olds, Gainesville’s Harmon Johns finished on top, and Bo Bean of Bakersfield took second place. Mountain Home represented the top two spots for ages eight and nine as Jackson Corp was the area winner, and Jake Brashears ended up second.



The local winners will advance to the state competition to be held in February at Hot Springs.
