Triangulation is the word which granted Cotter sixth Grader Ethan Sexauer the first place win in the Baxter County Spelling Bee held at The Sheid on the ASU Mountain Home campus Wednesday. Mountain Home eighth grader Lucas Todd came up with the second place win and Mountain Home fifth grader Allison Payne followed with the third place trophy.
The spelling bee lasted 12 rounds with 43 students consisting of the top two spellers, ranging from grades three to eight, participating from Cotter, Norfork, Mountain Home Christian Academy and Mountain Home Public Schools’ previous spelling bees.
It was a close call between Lucas Todd and Ethan Sexauer as it came down to the final two. Todd missed the correct spelling of commencement by one letter. Sexauer took the lead with the correct spelling of lasagna. He then spelled the championship word, triangulation, with little hesitation. He will move on to compete at the state level usually held in the first weekend of March.
