The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality announced Thursday they completion of a review of the C & H Hog Farms Drilling Study and found no evidence of a release from the farm’s storage ponds.

ADEQ Director Becky Keogh says the study and advanced technological review demonstrates the commitment the Governor has made to protect the vitality of the Buffalo River and its watershed as a valued natural resource to the State of Arkansas. This project, she says, demonstrates the kind of science based approach ADEQ applies in carrying out their mission and the mission of the Governor. The study, she adds, was a remarkable effort, and she commends the full project team for their professionalism, expertise and competency to better inform the public and the regulatory decisions of the ADEQ in the future.

A multidisciplinary, internal review team from ADED., including a professional engineer, professional geologist and scientists, reviewed the study’s findings while considering additional information derived from questions posed by concerned citizens.

Harbor Environmental and Safety successfully completed the drilling study in a manner consistent with the Drilling Study Work Plan, according to the ADEQ press release. They say the study achieved the project’s objective by identifying the anomaly in the electrical resistivity imaging study at 120.5 feet below ground surface was water, not release. The study’s findings will inform and enable the department to move forward with the permitting decisions for C& H Hog Farms, which are pending.

A copy of the review team’s findings, including responses to public questions, is available at the ADEQ website adeq.state.ar.us.
