Two Baxter County Detention Center inmates are receiving additional charges after a jailer found them to be in possession of a controlled substance on Monday. According to Sheriff John Montgomery, 28-year-old Joseph Paul Smith of rural Mountain Home and 27-year-old Seth Andrew Withrow of Midway each now face a felony count of furnishing, possession or using prohibited articles and a misdemeanor count of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance. Both inmates each have a bond of $5,000 on these charges.

Jailer Christopher Joans reported to observe suspicious activity inside a holding cell and went in to check Smith and Withrow who were confined together. Joans allegedly discovered two types of pills hidden and concealed in their socks, and they were later identified as clonazepam and alprazolam.

Smith was already incarcerated since January 11th on other drug charges and a probation violation. Withrow has been in the detention center since Sunday on a probation violation and for a court-mandated sentence.

Smith and Withrow are scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.
