Baxter Co. and City of Mtn. Home sales stax number on plus side

     Baxter County is starting the year with an increase in Sales Tax Revenue over January, 2016, according to Baxter County Treasurer Janey Mize. The numbers, just released by the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, covers spending in November and shows a 2.9 percent increase compared to the previous November in 2015.

     The county sales tax is divided among the county and the eight municipalities, with Mountain Home leading the way with $164,461, Gassville collected $27,454, while Cotter picked up $12,815,   Lakeview took in $9,790, Norfork received $6,751, Salesville collected $5,945 the City of Briarcliff netted $3,118 and Big Flat received $1,374.

     City of Mountain Home Treasurer Deborah Cotter says the city, like the county, also saw sales tax numbers on the upswing for January. She says the city saw a 5.66 percent increase over January, 2016.

    Cotter says she doesn’t want to be overconfident, but hopes this increase continues through 2017.
