Several area basketball teams were in action Thursday as regional tournaments around Arkansas wrapped up their opening rounds.



Cotter’s girls watched their season come to an end in the Class 2A North Regional Tournament at Carlisle. The Lady Warriors fell to Earle by a final of 64-39.



The first round of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament came to an end at Calico Rock.

Mammoth Spring’s girls were eliminated after losing to Maynard 58-51. Stephine Henry led the Lady Bears with 14 points, and Terra Godwin and Bailey Hocum added 13 each. Mammoth Spring’s year ends at 15-17.

Izard County clinched a state tournament bid as they invoked the mercy rule on the way to beating up on Rector 54-30. The Lady Cougars were led by Kennedy Cooper with 14 points, and Sam King chipped in 13. Izard County improves to 30-6 on the season.

Mammoth Spring was bounced from the boys’ bracket as they fell to Rector 49-37. Logan Skaggs was the Bears’ top scorer with 14 points, and Sagen Godwin had ten. Mammoth Spring’s final record is 24-10.

The other boys’ contest was the last game of the season for Calico Rock. The host Pirates were edged out by Ridgefield Christian.



The Class 1A Region 1 Tournament concluded its first round at Omaha.

St. Joe’s girls were eliminated in the first game of the day. The Lady Wildcats ended up losing to Alpena 49-48.

Omaha was able to sweep Western Grove in back-to-back games. The host Lady Eagles topped the Lady Warriors 56-47, and Omaha later took the boys’ game 56-50.



Two area teams lost their first round games in the Class 1A Region 3 Tournament at Mount Vernon-Enola High School. Rural Special’s girls fell to the host Lady Warhawks 54-29, and the Timbo boys lost to Marvell 58-50.



Three area teams played their first games in the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament at Riverside High School in Lake City.

Marshall’s boys were able to secure a state tournament berth. The Bobcats got past Rivercrest 74-66 in overtime.

Valley Springs was eliminated in the other boys’ game. The Tigers ended up losing to Manila by a score of 61-43.

Valley Springs fared better on the girls’ side. The Lady Tigers defeated the host Lady Rebels 48-36.
