There was plenty of high school basketball Friday as regional semifinals were held throughout the Natural State.



Norfork’s girls advanced to the championship game of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at Calico Rock. The Lady Panthers put the mercy rule in effect as they routed Maynard 72-42.

Norfork’s opponent on Saturday will be Izard County for the fourth time this season. The Lady Cougars faced a comeback after having a ten-point lead at halftime, but they were able to hold off Bay for a 44-41 decision. Izard County was led by Sam King with 19 points, and Jen King chipped in 12. The Ladyh Cougars are now 31-6 on the year.

The Izard County boys will join their female counterparts in the finals for the fourth consecutive season after beating up on Ridgefield Christian 62-35. Taylor Reynolds led the Cougars with 25 points, and Justus Cooper added 14. Izard County improves to 32-9 on the season.



Omaha hosted the semifinals of the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament, and they suffered a sweep at the hands of Japser. The Eagles fell in the boys’ game to the Pirates 58-53, and Jasper also took the girls’ contest 60-29.



Three area teams took part in the semifinals of the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament at Riverside High School in Lake City.

Marshall was sent to the third place game of the boys’ bracket. The Bobcats fell to the host Rebels 69-40.

Two local schools faced each other on the girls’ side. Mountain View ended up losing to Valley Springs 43-31.



In Missouri, two local teams wrapped up district play.

Gainesville’s girls secured their third-consecutive state tournament bid in Sparta. The top-seeded Lady Bulldogs won the Class 2, District 4 Tournament after topping Hartville 42-37. Gainesville improves to 28-1 on the season, and they’ll travel to Mountain Grove Wednesday to face Neelyville in the sectional round of the Class 2 State Tournament.

The Dora boys fell short of a championship in the Class 1, District 4 Tournament at Bakersfield. The Falcons lost the title game to Bradleyville 77-44. Dora’s season comes to an end at 12-14.
