Wednesday’s state tournament play includes opener for Gainesville girls

State tournament play continues Wednesday as four area teams will play their openers.

Gainesville’s girls are set to begin action in the Class 2 State Tournament in Missouri. The Lady Bulldogs’ sectional game will be at Mountain Grove as they meet Neelyville.
Gainesville is currently 28-1 on the season and has spent much of the year ranked in the Class 2 top ten. The Lady Bulldogs won the District 4 title Friday after a five-point victory over Hartville. Gainesville head coach Morris Jenkins says the main key to keeping the team’s success rolling to play like they have all season.

Neelyville has a record of 21-4. The Lady Tigers edged out Thayer on Thursday to claim the District 3 championship.

State tournament play continues in Arkansas as a pair of area girls’ teams will play their first games in the Class 1A State Tournament at Mount Ida. Izard County faces Mount Vernon-Enola at four p.m., and Omaha takes on Acorn at 7:00.
Both of Harrison’s teams will be in Magnolia for their openers in the Class 5A State Tournament. The Lady Goblins take on Paragould at 1:00, and the Harrison boys play Greene County Tech at 5:30.
