Thursday results include MH soccer teams winning season openers

The Mountain Home High School soccer teams began the regular season Thursday at Bomber Stadium by sweeping Green Forest.

The Lady Bombers began the evening with a 5-0 shutout victory over the Lady Tigers. Emma Jones and Natalie Bruce led Mountain Home with two goals each, Chloe Nosari scored the other goal, and Sabra Wickersham, Grace Beckham and Peyton Fowler all dished out assists.

The Bomber boys followed by blanking Green Forest 1-0. Mikey McLean scored the only goal of the contest off assists from Ben Smith and Koby Weber, and Spencer Foster recorded four saves for Mountain Home.

Both Bomber teams begin the year at 1-0, and they’ll begin 6A/5A-2 district play on Tuesday when they travel to Batesville.



The Mountain Home High School softball team was not as fortunate in its season opener as they fell to Highland 3-1 at Ash Flat Ball Park. Madelyn Yates suffered the loss in the circle as she pitched a complete game and gave up three hits and one earned run. The Lady Bombers’ offense was led by Morgan Pierski and Cierra Williams with two hits each, and Sydnie Zimmer, Chassie Whitlow and Courtney Green each added one base hit.

Mountain Home fared better in the junior varsity contest as they routed Highland 15-1. Maleigha Phan pitched a complete game to get the victory. Sierra Hes led the J.V. Lady Bombers’ offense with three hits, and Harlie Gann, Tabby Switzer, Brooklynne Tucker and Madison Manes provided two hits apiece.

Mountain Home heads to Batesville Tuesday for its district opener.



In high school baseball, Flippin went to Yellville City Park suffered a 15-5 loss at the hands of Yellville-Summit. Nash Dowden was the winning pitcher as he went 5 2/3 innings, struck out three batters and gave up nine hits and two walks. For the Panthers’ offense, Brock Vigna had three hits, two runs and two RBIs; Dowden provided two hits, scored two runs and drove in four more; and Tyler Ramey finished with two hits, two runs and two RBIs.



The Branson High School girls’ basketball team left Springfield with the championship trophy of the Class 5, District 11 Tournament. The Lady Pirates defeated top-seeded Springfield Kickapoo 58-54 in Thursday’s finals. Branson is now 24-4 on the season, and they’ll head back to Springfield on Wednesday when they face Republic in the sectional round of the Class 5 State Tournament at the O’Reilly Family Event Center on the campus of Drury University.
