With the high school basketball season winding down in Arkansas, it will end this weekend with the Valley Springs girls being in Hot Springs for the third consecutive year. The Lady Tigers will defend last year’s Class 3A state championship on Friday as they go up against Hoxie.

Valley Springs split with Greenland in the previous two finals winning the 2016 title. The Lady Tigers also went to three consecutive championship games from 2009 to 2011, and they beat Cave City for the title in 2010. Valley Springs’ first trip to the state finals under current head coach Kim Jenkins was in 2004 when they fell to Harding Academy, and the program’s first state championship came ten years earlier. Jenkins says the Lady Tigers’ history is a testament to the work ethic and the desire to be successful of its past and present athletes.

Valley Springs brings a 33-6 record to Hot Springs against a Hoxie team that is 29-6 according to MaxPreps. The two teams last met nearly two weeks ago when the Lady Tigers lost to the Lady Mustangs 49-42 in the championship game of the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament at Riverside High School in Lake City, and Jenkins says her team hasn’t forgotten about that outcome.
