The Mountain Home High School baseball and softball programs are getting ready to begin action in their new complex. While the Bomber boys have already played a makeup game at the new McClain Park, Tuesday will be home opener for the Lady Bombers, and the programs are planning to celebrate with an opening ceremony.

It was late March of last year when ground was broken on the new facility, and Mountain Home athletic director Mitch Huskey says he is happy the baseball and softball teams will have an on-campus location to go to.

The Bomber Booster Foundation began raising money for McClain Park after the fundraising project for the synthetic field turf at Bomber Stadium came to an end. According to foundation president Brad Hasselwander, the hard cost of the new complex was over $2.3 million, and he says the money went to a facility the Mountain Home athletic program can be proud of.

In addition to Hugh McClain and his family, the Bomber Booster Foundation had several other donors making McClain Park a possibility. The baseball field will be named Pitts Field after Carl and Dessie Pitts, and a contribution by Jim and Linda Maycunich went to the softball field being named Freedom Field. In addition, ASC Warranty and Route 66 are sponsoring both scoreboards, Southern Tag and Label’s donation went to the pressboxes, and the home dugout on Pitts Field is courtesy of I.T.S. Huskey also gives credit to several other people for making the new facility possible.

Before both Mountain Home teams host Vilonia on Tuesday, several activities will be held leading up to the games. The Mountain Home ROTC will take part in the festivities along with the high school cheer and dance teams and the high school band. Olivia Kirby will sing the Star Spangled Banner, and Lori Gregory will sing God Bless America. Following recognition of the community sponsors, the special guest speaker will be former Arkansas Razorback head baseball coach Norm DeBryin, and the ceremony will conclude with a ribbon cutting. Activities get underway at noon.
