An inmate at the Baxter County Jail, 26-year-old Milan Sweet of Summit, is now facing felony charges in connection with the theft of two ATV/RTV vehicles Monday. Sweet was arrested by the Mountain Home Police Department the same day on unrelated misdemeanor charges. His original bail amount was $3,745. With the new charges his bond is now set at $18,745.
According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, on March 6th Sweet allegedly fled on foot from Arkansas State Police in the Buford area. That same day the Sheriff's Office received a report, from a resident in the same area, of a missing Polaris ATV, valued at $4,550, taken from a garage and later abandoned approximately a mile from where it was taken. Later that day another report came in from a woman saying she spotted a man, later identified as Sweet, riding her father's RTV, valued at $10,000. The woman gave a description of the man and said she observed him abandon it and get into a car driven by another man.
After his arrest by Mountain Home Police on the unrelated charges, Sweet allegedly admitted to stealing both vehicles to Sheriff's Investigators and gave a description of where they could be found.
Sweet is charged with breaking or entering and two felony counts of theft of property and is scheduled to appear in Circuit Court later this month.
