Healthy rivers mean healthy communities is the slogan of Friends of the North Fork and White Rivers, a non-profit all volunteer organization dedicated to protecting the local waters which are the recreational and economic lifeblood of the community for future generations.
The group was founded in 2002 by a group of concerned citizens from communities in the watersheds of the White and North Fork Rivers. Dr. Eddie Dry, a professor at Arkansas State University in Mountain Home and member of the organization, describes a watershed as an area of land that sheds water, like rainfall, into a body of water.

Jane Darr, a past president and current board member of the friends group says one of the goals of the organization is to provide information and education to the public and elected officials on issues concerning the rivers and environment.

Darr says the agencies and groups the friends work with together teach best management practices to the public on ways to prevent pollution of the watershed and soil from running into rivers and streams.
