22 scholarships awarded at annual Teen Girls Go To College event

     Over 150 girls from 11 area high schools attended the 9th annual Teen Girls Go to College held at ASU-Mountain Home Thursday. Sponsored by the Schliemann Center for Women’s Health Education of Baxter Regional Medical Center, the event included a Career Fair with local business women representing over 30 professions discussing career opportunities. Jaren Beavers, Coordiantor at the Schliemann Center, says these women volunteer their time to share their experiences and encouraging the girls.

The event included a luncheon with guest speakers Adanced Nurse Practitioner Corinne Hiser, a founding advsory board member and Sara Anderson from ASUMH Student Services.
A highlight at the luncheon was the scholarship awards ceremony, says Beavers.

Beavers says these scholarships are significant because they are given to young women who may not be eligible for more traditional scholarships.

Scholarships awarded included full tuition for a CNA program, full tuition for a phlebotomy program, $500 scholarships renewable for up to four years and $1000 scholarslhips to Arkansas State University-Mountain Home.
