Dualtone RecordsThe family of the late Chuck Berry has shared an update about the status of the new studio album that the rock ‘n’ roll pioneer was planning to release this year.
Details about the album, titled Chuck, were first announced last October 16, Berry’s 90th birthday. In an official statement, the Berry family says, “Working to prepare the release of this record in recent months and in fact over the last several years brought Chuck a great sense of joy and satisfaction. While our hearts are very heavy at this time, we know that Chuck had no greater wish than to see this album released to the world, and we know of no better way to celebrate and remember his 90 years of life than through his music.”
The note goes on to explain that the family and the Dualtone Records label are preparing to “reveal further details and music from the album this week…with gratitude to his fans around the world.”
In other news, according to BuzzAngle Music, sales of Berry’s music have skyrocketed since the influential rocker’s death Saturday. The report says sales of Berry’s albums and songs increased by 9,581 percent since his passing. Chuck’s album-sales average had been 39 per day prior to his death, while 2,054 albums were sold the day of his death and 3,808 on the following day.
Berry’s song sales increased 11,684 percent, with 16,616 total sales recorded on Sunday. Chuck’s most-downloaded track on Sunday was “Johnny B Goode,” with 4,297 sales — an increase of 10,330 percent.
