Paul McCartney has joined the many celebrities who’ve paid tribute to rock ‘n’ roll legend Chuck Berry, who died Saturday at the age of 90.

The former Beatles star posted an homage to Berry on his official website that reads, “He was one of rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest poets. He will be missed but remembered by everyone who ever loved rock ‘n’ roll.”

Regarding his influence on the Fab Four, Sir Paul noted, “From the first minute we heard the great guitar intro to ‘Sweet Little Sixteen’ we became fans of the great Chuck Berry. His stories were more like poems than lyrics…To us he was a magician making music that was exotic yet normal at the same time. We learnt so many things from him which led us into a dream world of rock ‘n’ roll music.”

McCartney also points out in his tribute, “I was privileged to meet him in his home town St. Louis when I played there on tour and it’s a memory I will cherish forever.”

Meanwhile, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has announced that flowers will be placed on Berry’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star today at 1 p.m. PT. Chuck’s commemorative star marker is located at 1779 Vine Street across from the historic Capitol Records Building. It was unveiled in September 1987.
