Bomb Squad to compete in World Championship

FRC Team 16, known more commonly as the Bomb Squad, will travel to Houston Tuesday for its 21st appearance 2017 World Championship Robotics Competition. This week’s event will include 400 teams from several countries. Teams will attend practice matches and have their robots inspected Wednesday. The qualification matches will be held Thursday and Friday. Alliance selection is scheduled for Saturday to be followed by the elimination matches.

The World Championship is open to the public, and everyone is welcome to attend the event and support the team. The event will be streamed live at www.frcteam16.org beginning Thursday.

The Bomb Squad is a robotics team for students grades 9-12 in the Twin Lakes Area. This year’s team is made up of 14 girls and 16 boys. The 2017 season’s game is FIRST Steamworks, a steampunk themed game challenging students to build a robot to help prepare an airship for lift off.

The Bomb Squad recently competed in the Midwest Regional Robotics in Chicago and received the 2017 Creativity Award for their robot’s gear pickup. The Bomb Squad was part of an alliance with teams from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Bradley, Illinois, and they lost only four qualification matches and two in the elimination rounds.
